About Learning Camp

The Learning Camp Initiative is a nonprofit organization committed to helping children in underserved communities acquire foundational literacy and numeracy skills. We implement the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodology and the Language Learning from Familiar to Formal (L2F2) approach to ensure that every child, regardless of background, can succeed in school.

After-School Program

After-School Program

Learning Camp Initiative (Upcoming) Our flagship after-school program is designed to support children in public schools who are falling behind. Using the TaRL and L2F2 methodologies, we assess students, group them by learning level, and provide targeted instruction.

  • Location: Fegge LGA, Kano State
  • Target: 300 children in 4 schools
  • Duration: 3 months (2-hour sessions, Monday to Thursday)
  • Funding: D-Prize (conditional grant)

Teacher Training Initiative

Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL): We assess students using simple tools and group them based on actual learning level—not age or grade. Instruction is tailored to each group’s needs, using engaging and playful methods Language Learning from Familiar to Formal (L2F2):We begin with the mother tongue to teach literacy before transitioning to English. This method builds comprehension by connecting learning to language that children understand.

  • Location: Fegge LGA, Kano State
  • Target: 30 eacher in 4 schools
  • Duration: 3 months (2-hour sessions, Monday to Thursday)
  • Funding: D-Prize (conditional grant)

Dukawuya Class Practice

Dukawuya Class Practice (Completed) A 3-week pilot program was implemented at Dukawuya Primary School, Kano, utilizing TaRL methods with over 200 students. Children were grouped by ability and received differentiated instruction tailored to their needs. By the end of the program, most students showed significant improvement in their literacy skills.
